CareerPlug vs JazzHR: Pricing and AI Screening Compared

JazzHR publishes $1,000, $3,480 and $5,508 a year and starts AI candidate matching on Plus. CareerPlug publishes no price, locks both billing options into 12 months, and screens on prescreen answers rather than resumes. What each costs, what each screens, and which fits a franchise or a single-location business.

Short answer: CareerPlug and JazzHR are both applicant tracking systems for US small businesses, and they differ on three things that decide most purchases. JazzHR publishes its prices ($1,000, $3,480 and $5,508 a year) and CareerPlug publishes none. JazzHR reads resumes with AI-Powered Candidate Matching from its $3,480 Plus plan, while CareerPlug has no AI resume screening and sorts applicants on their prescreen answers instead. And CareerPlug is built around franchises and multi-location hourly hiring, with texting, auto-scheduling and onboarding forms, where JazzHR is a general SMB recruiting tool. If your real problem is too many applications to read, check that first.

These two share a shortlist because both are priced for owners and HR generalists rather than recruiting departments, both post to the big job boards, and both promise to take the busywork out of hiring. They come from different places. CareerPlug, founded in 2007, says it is trusted by 400+ franchise brands and thousands of locations. JazzHR belongs to Employ Inc., which also owns Lever and Jobvite and presents the three as a ladder from small to enterprise. We read both vendors' pricing pages and CareerPlug's help center on September 25, 2026.

CareerPlug vs JazzHR pricing

JazzHR is the easy one. Its pricing page lists Hero at $1,000 a year, Plus at $3,480 a year and Pro at $5,508 a year, all billed annually. Hero covers job postings "starting at 3/month", the core applicant tracking system, email templates and a LinkedIn Recruiter integration. Plus adds up to 200 active jobs, AI-Powered Candidate Matching, structured interviews and assessments, and configurable task automation. Pro adds offers and e-signatures, advanced visual reporting and a custom report builder; the first two are available as add-ons on the lower plans. A monthly toggle exists, but the page does not print the monthly rates, only that paying yearly saves "up to 24%". Our JazzHR pricing breakdown goes plan by plan.

CareerPlug gives you the plan structure and no numbers. Its help center names Limited, Hire and Grow, publishes a feature table for each, and answers "How are CareerPlug's subscription plans priced?" with billing terms rather than dollars. The figure that circulates, about $50 per location per month, comes from review and competitor sites that do not cite a source. Our CareerPlug pricing page grades every figure in circulation and explains why the per-location framing matters for multi-unit operators.

Ignore one number you will see on comparison sites: "JazzHR starts at $39 per month". It does not match anything on JazzHR's current pricing page. The lowest rate JazzHR publishes today is $1,000 a year for Hero, which works out to about $83 a month on annual billing.

Which is cheaper, CareerPlug or JazzHR?

For a single location with one or two open roles, the two probably land in the same range, but only JazzHR lets you prove it before a sales call. If the circulating CareerPlug estimate is right, one location would sit near $600 a year, below JazzHR Hero's $1,000. That is a big if, and the terms matter more than the rate.

CareerPlug's help center says both of its billing options, Monthly and Annual, "are annual commitments". Annual billing is paid up front for 12 months and can be cancelled within the first 30 days. Monthly billing is only offered on Grow, runs for 12 months from the day you switch, and cannot be downgraded or cancelled until 30 days before renewal. So a CareerPlug purchase is a one-year decision whichever way you pay.

The comparison flips as you add locations. A per-location price grows with every store you open, whether or not that store is hiring, while JazzHR's plans grow with job volume. A franchise group with 15 units and three open roles would pay CareerPlug for 15 locations and JazzHR for one plan. Ask CareerPlug directly which unit your quote uses.

The hidden cost on JazzHR is the AI. If you want software that reads applications for you, Hero will not do it, and the real entry price is the $3,480 Plus plan.

Does CareerPlug or JazzHR use AI to screen resumes?

JazzHR does, from Plus up. CareerPlug does not.

JazzHR lists AI-Powered Candidate Matching as a Plus feature, and every plan includes a resume parser and knockout questions. So Hero gives you rules-based screening (an applicant who answers a knockout question wrong is filtered out) and Plus adds a match between the resume and the job. JazzHR does not publish how the match is scored or explained, so test it on a requisition you have already filled.

CareerPlug's guide to AI in hiring describes one AI feature: a job description writer powered by OpenAI. Screening runs on prescreen questions. For each possible answer you choose Auto Fast Track, Fast Track, Normal or Disqualify. Any disqualifying answer moves the applicant to a separate Disqualified tab, one Auto Fast Track answer puts them on the Fast Track list regardless of the rest, and Fast Track applicants can be sent a personality or skills assessment automatically. It is quick to set up and it works well for hard requirements such as a valid license or weekend availability. It never reads the resume, so it cannot tell a strong applicant who misread one question from a weak one who answered everything right. If you are writing those questions now, our guide to knockout questions in recruiting covers which ones hold up.

Is CareerPlug better than JazzHR?

For franchises and multi-location hourly hiring, usually yes. CareerPlug's Hire plan bundles the things a store manager actually uses: text-to-apply, unlimited texting with applicants, Autopilot interview scheduling, Indeed and ZipRecruiter quick apply, and the federal and state onboarding forms a new hire needs on day one. There is no charge per user, so every manager can log in, and permissions are set per location, which is how franchise groups are organized. If your stores already have screens up front, a now-hiring message with a text-to-apply number on the screens you already run in each location feeds straight into that flow.

For a single-location business hiring a mix of salaried and hourly roles, JazzHR is usually the better buy. You can see the price, you can pick the plan that includes AI matching, and 200 active jobs on Plus is more room than most small companies will use. JazzHR also has a clear upgrade path if you grow, though the next step is Lever, a different product at an unpublished price.

If neither fits, our list of the best ATS for small business compares every system in this bracket that publishes a rate, and the JazzHR alternative page covers the screening-first option.

What if the problem is the applicant pile, not the ATS?

Most owners who shop for a new ATS are really shopping for time. A role gets 150 applications, the manager reads the first 20, and anyone qualified who applied on day three is never seen. Switching between CareerPlug and JazzHR does not fix that on its own: CareerPlug sorts on answers, and JazzHR only reads resumes if you pay for Plus.

Prescreener does that one job, and it runs next to either system. It reads every inbound resume as it arrives, applies your knockout and eligibility rules the same way to every applicant, scores role-fit with the evidence behind each score, and ranks the pile so the manager opens the best matches first. It never auto-rejects anyone. Plans are $199, $499 and $1,290 a month on the Prescreener pricing page, month to month, and our applicant eligibility screening software page shows how the rules are applied.

CareerPlug vs JazzHR: frequently asked questions

How much does CareerPlug cost compared to JazzHR?

JazzHR publishes $1,000, $3,480 and $5,508 a year for Hero, Plus and Pro. CareerPlug publishes no price; third-party sites estimate about $50 per location per month without citing a source. Both of CareerPlug's billing options are 12-month commitments, so compare the full-year cost, not the monthly figure.

Does JazzHR have AI resume screening?

Yes, from the Plus plan at $3,480 a year, which adds AI-Powered Candidate Matching. Every JazzHR plan, including the $1,000 Hero plan, includes a resume parser and knockout questions, which filter applicants on their answers without AI.

Is CareerPlug only for franchises?

No, but that is its core market. CareerPlug says it is trusted by 400+ franchise brands, sets user access per location, and bundles texting, scheduling and onboarding forms for hourly hiring. Single-location businesses use it too, on the same Limited, Hire and Grow plans.

Can I cancel CareerPlug or JazzHR monthly?

CareerPlug, no: both billing options are annual commitments, and monthly billing on Grow cannot be cancelled until 30 days before renewal. JazzHR offers a monthly option alongside yearly billing, but does not print the monthly rates on its pricing page, so confirm the term before you sign.
