Short answer: JazzHR is a pure applicant tracking system priced as a flat annual plan, $1,000, $3,480 or $5,508 a year, with AI candidate matching starting on the $3,480 Plus plan. BambooHR is an HR system of record with an ATS included, priced per employee at $10, $17 or $25 a month, with no AI resume screening. Choose JazzHR when hiring is the job and headcount keeps growing. Choose BambooHR when you also need the HR records, and add a screening layer if applications pile up.
Both products turn up on the same shortlist because small US employers search for "an ATS" and "an HR system" in the same week. They are priced on different units, so the sticker numbers cannot be compared directly. We read BambooHR's pricing page on August 3, 2026 and JazzHR's on August 26, 2026. Where we do arithmetic on those figures, we say so.

Is JazzHR cheaper than BambooHR?
It depends on headcount, because only one of them charges for it. JazzHR does not care whether you have 20 employees or 120. BambooHR's list rate is multiplied by every person on the payroll. Using the published rates, our arithmetic:
| Employees | BambooHR Core, per year | BambooHR Pro, per year | JazzHR Plus, per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 or fewer | From $3,000 (flat rate) | From $3,000 (flat rate) | $3,480 |
| 50 | $6,000 | $10,200 | $3,480 |
| 100 | $12,000 | $20,400 | $3,480 |
| 200 | $24,000 | $40,800 | $3,480 |
These are list-rate figures. BambooHR says volume discounts apply automatically as headcount grows, so a 200-person company will pay less than straight multiplication. The shape is still the point. At 25 people the two cost about the same. Past 50 people BambooHR costs more than JazzHR Plus, and the gap widens with every hire, whether or not that hire had anything to do with recruiting.
The fair counter is that you are not buying the same thing. BambooHR replaces the spreadsheet your HR records live in. JazzHR does not touch employee records at all. If you were going to buy an HR system anyway, the ATS inside it is effectively free. If you only need to hire, you are paying for a lot of software you will not open. As we noted in our JazzHR vs Workable comparison, JazzHR's list price also does not cover every buyer, so confirm that your company type is covered before you assume $3,480.
Which one screens applicants?
JazzHR does, in two layers. Knockout questions and a resume parser come on Hero at $1,000 a year, which lets you gate on eligibility, licensure or location without any AI. AI-Powered Candidate Matching starts on Plus at $3,480 a year, so the real entry price for AI screening in JazzHR is $3,480, not $1,000. JazzHR does not publish a volume limit or an accuracy figure for matching, so ask to see it run on 300 real applications rather than a short demo set.
BambooHR does not. Its applicant tracking page lists job distribution, automated candidate emails, offer letters with e-signatures, interview self-scheduling, source and funnel reports, background check integrations and new-hire packets. Its AI features are aimed at the people you already employ: questions against HR data, engagement and burnout signals, time-off pattern detection. Nothing there reads or ranks inbound resumes. For a role that draws 400 applications, BambooHR hands you 400 records and the reading is still yours.
Job opening limits and the upgrade trap
BambooHR caps open requisitions by plan: 5 on Core, 25 on Pro, 50 on Elite. A 70-person company with nine roles open has to move from Core to Pro, and that upgrade reprices all 70 employees from $10 to $17, taking the bill from $700 to $1,190 a month (our arithmetic). A recruiting spike triggers a charge sized by headcount.
JazzHR's ladder is steeper at the first step and flatter after it. Hero to Plus is a $2,480 jump, 248 percent, but Plus allows up to 200 active jobs, so a hiring push does not push you into another tier. Pro at $5,508 adds offers, eSignatures and advanced reporting. On Plus, some of those are sold as add-ons, and JazzHR also bills certain add-ons by consumption, so ask for last year's hiring volume to be modeled against the meter.
Who should choose which
Choose JazzHR if hiring is the main pain, you recruit steadily, you want knockout questions and AI matching without paying for an HR suite, or your headcount is climbing and per-employee pricing would climb with it. It also helps that JazzHR sits at the foundational end of the Employ Inc. ladder, with Lever and Jobvite above it, though neither of those publishes a price.
Choose BambooHR if you have no HR system yet, you want employee records, time off, onboarding and payroll in one place, you are under about 50 people, and your applicant volume is modest enough that a person can read every application. Published pricing and a trial without a card also make it easy to test without a sales call. Our BambooHR pricing breakdown covers the add-ons and the discounts in full, and our JazzHR pricing breakdown does the same for the other side.
One point on onboarding. BambooHR onboarding covers packets, checklists and e-signatures, which is document readiness. If new hires also need role training and certification tracked, that sits in a learning system such as a corporate LMS for onboarding and certifying your workforce, not in either product here.
When neither product reads your applications
Two ways to hit this. You pick BambooHR and a posting pulls in hundreds of resumes with no ranking. Or you pick JazzHR Hero for $1,000 and discover AI matching is two tiers of pricing away. In both cases the fix is rarely a new ATS. A screening layer reads every inbound resume, applies your knockout rules identically to each one, and returns the pile in order with the evidence attached, running alongside the system you already pay for. Frequently asked questions
Is JazzHR cheaper than BambooHR?
For companies over about 50 employees, yes. JazzHR Plus is $3,480 a year regardless of headcount, while BambooHR Core at 50 employees is $6,000 a year at list rate. Under 25 employees the two cost about the same. They are not the same product, so price what you actually need.
Does BambooHR have an applicant tracking system?
Yes, in all three plans. Core allows 5 open jobs, Pro 25 and Elite 50. It handles job distribution, candidate emails, offers with e-signatures, interview scheduling and reports. It does not include AI resume screening or candidate ranking.
Does JazzHR have AI candidate screening?
Yes, through AI-Powered Candidate Matching, which starts on the Plus plan at $3,480 a year. Hero at $1,000 includes a resume parser and knockout questions but not the matching engine.
Is BambooHR an ATS or an HRIS?
Mainly an HRIS, meaning a system of record for employees, with an ATS included. JazzHR is an ATS only. The choice between them is really whether you need employee records as well as hiring workflow.
Can I add AI screening to BambooHR?
Yes. A dedicated screening tool reads and ranks inbound resumes alongside BambooHR without replacing it, which costs less than moving your HR records to another platform.
