SmartRecruiters Pricing: Cost by Edition
SmartRecruiters publishes one number across four editions, and the feature that reads your inbound resumes sits two editions above it. What Essential, Professional, High Volume and Complete actually include, what the $14,995 figure does and does not tell you, and the six questions to ask before signing.

Short answer: SmartRecruiters publishes exactly one number. Checked on August 23, 2026, the Essential edition reads "Starting at $14,995" and the other three editions, Professional, High Volume and Complete, all read "Request Pricing". The catch is what sits behind that single published figure: AI-Powered Candidate Screening, the feature that actually reads your inbound resumes, first appears on High Volume, which is two editions above the only price you can see. SmartRecruiters was acquired by SAP in September 2025 and no free trial is advertised on any edition.

How much does SmartRecruiters cost?
SmartRecruiters costs "Starting at $14,995" for the Essential edition, and everything above that is quoted by sales. That is the entirety of what the vendor publishes. Professional, High Volume and Complete each carry a "Request Pricing" button and no figure, so the real cost of the editions most mid-market and enterprise buyers end up on is not public information.
There is a detail in that published figure worth pausing on, because almost every third-party article gets it wrong by filling in a blank. The pricing page says "Starting at $14,995" and does not state a billing period anywhere on it. Not per year, not per month, not annually. We checked the full page text on August 23, 2026 and the words annual, yearly, per year and billed do not appear against that number at all. It is widely reported as an annual figure and that is almost certainly right given how this market sells, but SmartRecruiters itself does not label it, so treat any article that confidently writes "$14,995 per year" as having supplied a word the vendor did not.
The word "starting" is doing real work too. Essential is described as suiting startups and small to mid-size companies, and the edition scales on SMS messaging and job distribution volume, both of which the plan comparison marks as "Low" on Essential. A figure that starts at $14,995 with the lowest volume allowances in the lineup is a floor, not a quote.
SmartRecruiters pricing plans compared
Four editions, one price. Here is what each one adds, read from the vendor's own plan comparison on August 23, 2026.
| Edition | Published price | Built for | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Starting at $14,995 | Startups, small and mid-size | ATS, CRM, onboarding, SMS messaging, job distribution, dynamic scheduling. No AI. |
| Professional | Request Pricing | Mid-size, specialized, corporate | AI-powered Hiring Agent, AI Talent Matching Engine, access to add-on features |
| High Volume | Request Pricing | Retail, seasonal, hospitality, healthcare | AI-Powered Candidate Screening, Conversational AI Chat, higher SMS and distribution limits |
| Complete | Request Pricing | Large enterprise, global, specialized | Advanced Analytics, Advanced Sandbox, custom in-app guidance |
High Volume is flagged as the most popular edition on the pricing page, which tells you something about where buyers actually land. It is also the first edition that screens resumes, and it has no published rate.
Does SmartRecruiters Essential include AI screening?
No. Essential is the only edition in the lineup with no Winston AI at all, and the AI feature that reads inbound applications does not appear until two editions higher. Essential gives you the applicant tracking system, CRM, onboarding, SMS messaging, job distribution and dynamic scheduling. That is a competent ATS. It is not a screening product.
The order the AI arrives in matters if you are budgeting. Professional is where Winston first shows up, in the form of the AI-powered Hiring Agent and the AI Talent Matching Engine. High Volume is where AI-Powered Candidate Screening and Conversational AI Chat arrive. So a buyer who reads "$14,995" and assumes it covers the AI screening SmartRecruiters markets heavily is off by two editions and an unknown amount of money.
This is the single most common way ATS budgets go wrong, and it is not unique to SmartRecruiters. Bullhorn publishes $99 and $165 per user per month and puts its Amplify AI on the quote-only Pro and Max tiers. Lever sells AI screening as a separate paid add-on. In each case the number you can see excludes the capability you were shopping for. Our ATS pricing comparison works through all twenty two platforms and shows which ones include AI screening at the published rate and which gate it upward.
What is Winston and what does each Winston product do?
Winston is the umbrella name for SmartRecruiters AI, and it is three distinct products sold across three different editions. Keeping them straight is the difference between a useful quote and a confusing one.
| Winston product | What it does | First available on |
|---|---|---|
| Winston Match (AI Talent Matching Engine) | Identifies the best candidates for your roles and offers proactive suggestions | Professional |
| Winston Companion (AI-powered Hiring Agent) | Handles repetitive tasks from screening through scheduling | Professional |
| Winston Chat (Conversational AI) | Personalizes job recommendations and guides candidates through applications | High Volume |
| AI-Powered Candidate Screening | Screens the inbound applicant pile at volume | High Volume |
SmartRecruiters describes Winston Chat as using "advanced LMMs" to talk to candidates. That is a candidate-facing conversational layer rather than a resume reader, and it is worth separating the two in your head when a demo blends them. Conversational qualification and resume screening solve different problems: one asks the candidate questions, the other evaluates what they already sent you.
Does SmartRecruiters have a free trial?
No free trial is advertised on any edition. Every call to action on the pricing page is "Get Started", "Book a Demo" or "Contact Sales", and there is no self-serve signup path. Practically, that means your evaluation of SmartRecruiters happens inside a sales-led demo using their environment rather than in your own account with your own resumes.
That is normal at this end of the market and it is worth knowing before you plan an evaluation. SmartRecruiters sits with Bullhorn, Ashby, JazzHR and Spark Hire in advertising no trial. Workable runs a genuine 15-day trial of the full Standard feature set with no credit card, Zoho Recruit gives 15 days of Enterprise features, and Manatal gives 14 days with no card. If putting your own inbound pile through the product before signing matters to you, that difference is worth as much as a line on the price.
How does the SAP acquisition affect SmartRecruiters pricing?
SAP acquired SmartRecruiters in September 2025, and the most visible effect on the pricing page today is positioning rather than price. SmartRecruiters now leads with a dedicated "SmartRecruiters for SAP SuccessFactors" offering, pitched at running best-of-breed talent acquisition while maintaining SAP HCM continuity.
For a US buyer the practical questions are about the contract, not the org chart. Ask whether your quote is a SmartRecruiters paper or an SAP paper, whether it can be co-termed with an existing SAP agreement, and what the renewal uplift cap is. Enterprise software acquisitions tend to show up in renewal pricing rather than new-logo pricing, so the first year is rarely where the change appears. If you already run SAP SuccessFactors, note that SuccessFactors itself stack ranks candidates through Joule once AI Units are licensed, which means you may be evaluating two overlapping AI purchases inside the same vendor family.
One more procurement note. At a $14,995 floor on the cheapest edition, SmartRecruiters is a committed multi-year line item rather than a tool someone expenses, and it lands in the same software spend review as the rest of your stack. Teams running more than a handful of these contracts usually end up wanting a single read-only view of what every SaaS subscription actually costs across renewals, because the ATS is rarely the only agreement with an uncapped uplift in it.
SmartRecruiters pricing vs the platforms that publish a rate
The useful comparison is not feature by feature, it is whether you can build a business case without a sales call. Rates below were read from each vendor's own pricing page, SmartRecruiters on August 23, 2026 and the rest on August 22, 2026.
| Platform | Published rate | Pricing unit | AI resume screening at that rate? |
|---|---|---|---|
| SmartRecruiters | Essential from $14,995, rest quote only | Edition | No. Screening starts at High Volume, which is quote only |
| Workable | $299 / $599 / $719 per month | Flat, steps by employee band | Screening Assistant included, Agent metered per candidate |
| Manatal | $15 / $35 / $55 per user per month annual | Per user | Yes, AI candidate scoring on all three plans |
| Bullhorn | Starter $99, Core $165 per user per month | Per user | No. Amplify AI starts at the quote-only Pro tier |
| JazzHR | $1,000 / $3,480 / $5,508 per year | Flat annual | AI candidate matching from the Plus plan |
| CVViZ | $99 to $499 per month | Flat, by active jobs | Yes, screening and ranking on all ATS plans |
| Greenhouse | Quote only, Core, Plus and Pro | Quote | Talent Matching scores applicants, no published rate |
Put plainly: SmartRecruiters Essential starts at roughly forty two times the annual cost of Workable Standard, and Workable includes a screening assistant while SmartRecruiters Essential includes no AI at all. That is not an argument that SmartRecruiters is overpriced. It is a much larger platform sold to much larger hiring operations, and the comparison only holds if you genuinely need what Essential contains. It is an argument for knowing which edition you are actually being quoted before you compare anything.
What should you ask before signing a SmartRecruiters contract?
Six questions, and they are all answerable on the first call.
First, which edition does this quote cover, and does it include AI-Powered Candidate Screening? If the answer is Essential or Professional, it does not. Second, is $14,995 an annual figure, and what is the term? The vendor does not state a period publicly, so get it in writing. Third, what are the SMS messaging and job distribution limits at our edition, in units we can count, given Essential is marked "Low" on both. Fourth, are Advanced Analytics, custom in-app guidance and Advanced Sandbox included at our edition or sold as add-ons, because the plan comparison shows all three as add-ons on the lower editions. Fifth, what is the renewal uplift cap, and is this SmartRecruiters paper or SAP paper. Sixth, since we hire in the United States, how does AI-Powered Candidate Screening support EEOC guidance and NYC Local Law 144 bias audits, and what documentation would we hand a regulator?
That last question is not a formality. The employer keeps legal responsibility for a selection procedure no matter who built the model, and New York City requires an annual independent bias audit for automated employment decision tools used on city candidates. Our guide to AI hiring laws by state covers what applies where you actually hire, and the AI resume screening lawsuit landscape explains why procurement teams have started asking vendors for audit documentation up front.
Is SmartRecruiters worth it?
SmartRecruiters is a serious enterprise talent acquisition platform with more than 4,000 customers, strong high-volume credentials in retail, hospitality and healthcare, and a coherent AI story once you reach the editions that have it. If you are running a large, multi-region hiring operation and you want one system covering attract, select and hire, it belongs on your shortlist.
The honest caution is about the shape of the pricing rather than the level. One published number out of four editions, no stated billing period against it, no trial, and the screening capability sitting above the priced tier together mean you cannot estimate your cost from public information. Budget for a discovery call and expect three to six weeks to a quote. Anyone telling you what SmartRecruiters costs for your company without having quoted you is guessing, and we have caught confident third-party pricing figures being wrong in both the number and the currency often enough to treat all of them as unverified.
If the actual problem you are solving is that nobody has time to read the inbound pile, changing applicant tracking systems is an expensive way to fix it. A screening layer reads every application as it arrives, applies your knockout and eligibility criteria identically to all of them, scores role-fit and hands back the pile in order with the evidence attached, and it runs alongside SmartRecruiters rather than replacing it.
