Short answer: hireEZ and Gem are both recruiting platforms that sit on top of your ATS, and they differ on price visibility and on how each reads inbound applicants. Gem publishes rates for recruiting firms ($99 to $199 per user a month) and a startup program, while hireEZ publishes one rate, $494 a month for a solo recruiter, and quotes every team. Vendr puts the median Gem contract at $25,700 a year and the median hireEZ contract at $13,000. Both can score inbound applications with AI, but on Gem that sits on an AI-powered seat (or the staffing Enterprise plan), and on hireEZ it is a separate module called Applicant Review.

These two land on the same shortlist because both began as sourcing tools for finding people who have not applied, and both have since grown into CRM, outreach, scheduling, analytics and inbound screening. hireEZ (formerly Hiretual) leads with sourcing across 45+ platforms and more than a billion profiles. Gem leads with CRM and multi-channel outreach and now sells its own ATS in an All-in-One plan. We read both vendors' pricing and product pages and their Vendr listings for this comparison.

hireEZ vs Gem pricing

Gem publishes more than most vendors in this category, but only for some buyers. Its recruiting-firm page lists Essentials at $99 per user a month billed yearly or $139 monthly (up to 3 users, 150 email-finding credits per user a month) and Professional at $149 yearly or $199 monthly (up to 10 users, 750 credits). Enterprise is custom and is the only staffing plan that lists the AI suite, including Application Review. Those plans are restricted to firms whose primary business is placing candidates for clients; Gem says in-house teams are not eligible.

For in-house teams, Gem's pricing page says "custom pricing, based on your company's FTE count", with two routes: Gem layered on your existing ATS, or Gem All-in-One with its own ATS. The exception is startups. Companies under 30 employees get All-in-One free for six months and then 50 percent off, and the startup calculator shows $130 a month for a 1 to 10 employee company on yearly billing, set against a struck-through $270.

hireEZ publishes one rate: $494 a month for a solo recruiter, with a 7-day free trial. For a team, it says seats are still part of the model but the price is "configured to the stack hireEZ replaces", and it runs a four-week verification before you sign. Its own FAQ says it used to publish a flat seat rate and stopped. That is why the $169 and $199 per seat figures you will find on review sites do not match anything hireEZ lists today. Our hireEZ pricing page grades every figure in circulation.

Read the two Vendr medians with care. Gem's $25,700 sits well above hireEZ's $13,000, but Gem contracts often include an ATS, and Vendr's Gem range runs to $73,184 where hireEZ's tops out near $25,000. Vendr also reports an average 20.44 percent saving negotiated off Gem's first quote, which is a useful number to have in hand when the proposal arrives.

Which is cheaper, hireEZ or Gem?

For a small recruiting agency, Gem, clearly. Three recruiters on Essentials cost $297 a month on yearly billing, against $494 for a single hireEZ solo seat. Even Gem Professional at $149 a user is under a third of hireEZ's solo rate. The catch is that Gem's published staffing plans do not include AI Application Review; that sits on Enterprise.

For an in-house team of five to fifteen recruiters, Vendr's data points the other way: the typical hireEZ contract is about half the typical Gem contract. But the two are not buying the same thing. A Gem All-in-One contract replaces your ATS; a hireEZ contract sits on top of it. Compare a hireEZ quote to Gem layered on your ATS, not to All-in-One.

Both sell contact finding and outreach as part of the platform. Gem's staffing plans meter it in email-finding credits per user per month (150 on Essentials, 750 on Professional), and hireEZ counts outreach and sequencing among the tools its contract is meant to replace. If most of your spend would go on contact data for outbound work, price it separately: a team that mostly needs to find and verify candidate email addresses does not need a sourcing platform contract to do it.

Do hireEZ and Gem use AI to screen resumes?

Both do, and this is where most comparison pages are out of date, because both products were sold as outbound tools first.

Gem's AI Application Review Agent is described on its pricing page as "every inbound application scored and ranked before a recruiter opens it", with AI resume highlights and AI-ranked applicant lists. It is listed under the AI-powered seat, not the Standard seat, so on in-house plans you pay for AI seats to get it, and on the staffing side it appears only on Enterprise.

hireEZ's Applicant Review builds an Ideal Persona from your job description and labels each applicant Best Match, Good Match, Partial Match or Not a Match. It reads only what the applicant submitted, typically the resume and application form, and a recruiter advances or rejects by hand. hireEZ does not itemize its price, and does not say whether the $494 solo plan includes it.

Is hireEZ better than Gem?

For sourcing depth, usually yes. hireEZ's core product is search across 45+ platforms and more than a billion profiles, and teams that fill hard technical, cleared or healthcare roles buy it for that. Its Applicant Review and voice screening are extensions of a sourcing platform.

For outreach, CRM and running the whole process in one system, Gem is usually the stronger buy. Its sequences, email finding and analytics are the reason agencies pick it, and All-in-One lets a growing company drop a separate ATS. Its published agency pricing is also far easier to budget than a hireEZ team quote.

If you are weighing either against an ATS with scoring built in, the ATS pricing comparison lists every vendor that publishes a rate, and our Eightfold AI pricing breakdown covers the enterprise talent-intelligence option.

What if the problem is the inbound pile, not sourcing?

Plenty of teams shortlist hireEZ or Gem because they want AI to read applicants, then discover they are pricing a sourcing and outreach platform to get it. If your roles already draw 200 applications each, you do not need more candidates. You need every one of those resumes read against the same criteria, ranked, and explained.

Prescreener does that one job and runs next to Greenhouse, Lever, Workday or whatever ATS you use. It reads every inbound resume as it arrives, applies your knockout and eligibility rules the same way to every applicant, scores role-fit with the evidence behind each score, and ranks the pile so recruiters open the strongest matches first. A person makes every decision. Plans are $199, $499 and $1,290 a month for the account on the Prescreener pricing page, month to month, with no seat count. Does Gem have AI resume screening?

Yes. Gem's AI Application Review Agent scores and ranks every inbound application before a recruiter opens it. It comes with an AI-powered seat on in-house plans, and on the recruiting-firm plans it is listed only on Enterprise, not on the published Essentials or Professional tiers.

Does hireEZ have a free trial?

Yes, for solo recruiters: the $494 a month plan includes a 7-day free trial. Teams get a four-week verification on their own workflows before signing. Gem offers a 7-day trial on its recruiting-firm plans and six months free for companies under 30 employees.

Is Gem an ATS?

It can be. Gem sells two routes: Gem layered on top of your existing ATS for sourcing, CRM, scheduling and analytics, or Gem All-in-One, which includes its own ATS with requisitions, scorecards and offers. hireEZ does not replace your ATS; it runs on top of it.
