Workstream pricing and what Workstream costs per location for hourly hiring
Workstream does not publish a price. Its pricing page lists four plans, Hiring, Essentials, All-in-one and Premium, and every one of them ends in a Get in touch button. Workstream's own blog describes the model plainly: the quote is based on location count, headcount and the modules you pick. There is no self-serve signup and no trial on the page.

The only dollar figure Workstream has published itself sits on a franchisee signup page for A&W: the ATS plus onboarding and team management for $50 per location per month on a one-year term, with setup waived. That is a brand-negotiated rate, not list price, but it is the best anchor available. Below is every source graded, what each plan adds, how the AI screening is packaged, and what a year costs for a multi-location operator.

Why it works
What a published screening price changes for an operator pricing Workstream
A number before the demo
Workstream quotes every operator. Prescreener publishes $199, $499 and $1,290 a month, or half that billed yearly, so the hiring budget exists before the first call.
Ranked applicants, not one more stack
If payroll and scheduling already work, you do not need an all-in-one to fix the applicant pile. Prescreener scores and ranks every applicant with written reasons.
No multi-year platform bet
Promotions like months of free payroll pay off only if you stay. Prescreener runs month to month next to the ATS you have, with no setup fee to model.
What it handles
Parsed, scored and ranked on autopilot
Prescreener reads every inbound resume, applies your knockout and eligibility criteria, asks the screening questions you set, scores role-fit against consistent criteria, and ranks the applicant pile so your recruiters review the top matches first.
- Reads every inbound application and resume as it arrives
- Applies your knockout rules, such as availability, age minimums or a valid license, the same way to every applicant
- Scores role-fit with the written evidence behind each placement
- Ranks the pile so managers call the strongest applicants first
- Runs alongside Workstream, Harri, Fountain or any ATS you already use
- Published monthly and yearly prices, no setup fee
Why Prescreener
One step that screens the whole inbound pile
Not a full ATS, not a six-figure assessment suite, and not a staffing agency. Parse, score, rank and hand off in one place, shaped to the criteria you already hire on.
Reads every resume
Prescreener parses every inbound application, applies your knockout and eligibility criteria, and asks the screening questions you set. Applicants consent and are told AI is screening their application, so no qualified person sits in a backlog for days.
Scores role-fit consistently
Every applicant is scored against the same criteria, with a transparent reason on each candidate, so the pile is compared consistently and the scoring stays bias-audited to support EEOC standards and NYC Local Law 144.
Ranks the pile
The strongest matches rise to the top of a ranked pile your recruiters review first. Prescreener never auto-rejects, it ranks and flags candidates for review, and your team makes every decision.
In depth
Workstream pricing, plan by plan and source by source
How much does Workstream cost?
Workstream does not say on its pricing page. workstream.us/pricing shows four plan cards and a feature comparison, with no dollar figure, no per-employee rate and no trial. Each card links to a demo request. Workstream's blog post comparing Harri describes the model in one line: pricing is quoted based on location count, headcount and module selection.
That leaves three kinds of figures, and they deserve very different weight. Workstream's own A&W franchisee page prints a negotiated $50 per location per month for the ATS, onboarding and team management, one-year term, setup waived. Directory sites such as SoftwareFinder estimate a start near $199 a month and list implementation ranges from $500 for basic setup to $2,500 for payroll setup, without naming a source. Vendr does not have a Workstream page, so there is no median contract to quote.
| Source | What it says about Workstream cost | How far to trust it |
|---|---|---|
| workstream.us pricing page | Four plans, all Get in touch, no prices | Primary source for what is included. Silent on cost |
| Workstream blog (Harri pricing post) | Quoted on location count, headcount and modules | Primary source for the pricing basis |
| Workstream A&W franchisee page | $50 per location a month, 1-year term, setup waived | Primary, but a brand-negotiated rate, not list price |
| SoftwareFinder listing | Starts at about $199 a month | Low. Labelled an estimate, no source |
| SoftwareFinder listing | Implementation $500 to $1,000, payroll setup $1,000 to $2,500 | Low. Useful only as a checklist of fee lines |
| Vendr marketplace | No Workstream page | No buyer-reported data available |

Workstream plans compared, Hiring vs Essentials vs All-in-one vs Premium
The four plans stack. Each one includes everything in the plan before it, so the real decision is how much of the back office you want Workstream to own. Hiring is the applicant tracking product on its own. Essentials adds HR and onboarding. All-in-one adds full-service payroll and labor compliance monitoring. Premium adds benefits administration and custom work.
Three modules sit outside the plans as add-ons: Time and Scheduling, ACA and Benefits, and Workstream Compliance, each with its own Get in touch button. One detail is worth checking on the call. The Hiring card promises posting to 25,000+ job boards, while the comparison table on the same page says 2,500+, so ask which reach your contract actually covers.
| Plan | What it adds | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Hiring (AI-Assisted Hiring) | ATS, VoiceAI and VideoAI screening, text-to-apply, talent network, interview scheduling, unlimited Indeed listings | Operators who only need to fill shifts faster |
| Essentials (HR and Team Management) | Mobile onboarding, documents and e-signatures, W-4, I-9 and E-Verify, team chat and roster | Teams replacing paper onboarding |
| All-in-one (Payroll and Compliance) | Full-service payroll, multi-EIN login, tax filing, POS integration, payroll AI, labor compliance monitoring | Multi-location operators consolidating payroll |
| Premium (Benefits and Custom) | ACA tracking, benefits enrollment, 1094-C and 1095-C filing, custom features and integrations | Larger groups with benefits obligations |
| Add-ons | Time and Scheduling, ACA and Benefits, Workstream Compliance | Priced separately on request |

Is Workstream priced per location or per employee?
Both inputs count. Workstream's own blog names location count and headcount together, and the only rate it has printed is per location. Third-party summaries describe a per-employee-per-month model for the payroll side, which fits how payroll vendors usually bill. In practice, expect the hiring and onboarding modules to be quoted per location and payroll to move with the number of people you pay.
That split matters for an operator with seasonal swings. A per-location hiring fee stays flat when you double crew for summer, while a per-employee payroll line climbs with every seasonal hire. Ask for the quote broken out by module, with the unit for each line written down, so you can model your peak month and your slowest one before you sign.
| Pricing input | Where it shows up | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Locations | A&W rate, $50 per location a month | Is the hiring plan priced per location for us too |
| Headcount | Named in Workstream's own pricing description | Which modules move with headcount, and is it active or total employees |
| Modules | Four stacked plans plus three add-ons | A line-by-line quote, one price per module |
| Term | One year on the A&W page | Renewal cap and what happens after a free-months promotion |

Does Workstream use AI to screen applicants, and does it cost extra?
Yes. AI screening is part of the Hiring plan rather than a separate tier. Workstream lists VoiceAI and VideoAI screening, meaning AI-run phone or video screening calls available around the clock in several languages, plus call transcripts, recordings, AI summaries and match scores, and automated applicant tracking and scoring.
Two things are not published. Workstream does not state any usage limit on VoiceAI calls, and its AI Functionality Terms refer to prepaid fees for AI functionality and to refunds if a third-party AI provider is suspended, which suggests AI can be billed as its own line in a contract. Ask whether VoiceAI is included at your volume or metered. Also note what the AI acts on: a phone or video screen the applicant completes. If your applicants send resumes and answers and the bottleneck is reading them, a resume-ranking layer does a different job. Our guide to how AI resume screening works explains the difference.
| Screening task | Workstream Hiring plan | Prescreener |
|---|---|---|
| What the AI evaluates | A phone or video screen the applicant completes | The application and resume as submitted |
| Output per applicant | Transcript, recording, AI summary and match score | Role-fit score plus written reasons |
| Orders the pile | Scoring inside the ATS | Full ranking of every applicant |
| Knockout questions | Supported in the hiring flow | Applied the same way to every applicant |
| Usage limits published | No | Applicants a month stated per plan |
| Published price | No | $199, $499, $1,290 a month, or half billed yearly |

What a year of Workstream costs for a multi-location operator
The table below is arithmetic on the one rate Workstream has printed, $50 per location per month for ATS, onboarding and team management. It is a negotiated franchise rate, so your quote may be higher or lower, and it excludes payroll, scheduling and benefits. Treat it as an order of magnitude for the hiring and onboarding side only.
The useful comparison is not Workstream against another all-in-one. It is whether the reason you are shopping is the applicant pile itself. If payroll and scheduling already run fine, a screening layer that ranks every applicant costs $1,188 a year on Prescreener Starter billed yearly, for up to 1,000 applicants a month. The ATS pricing comparison lists every system that does publish a rate.
| Locations | Monthly at $50 per location | One year | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $250 | $3,000 | ATS, onboarding, team management |
| 15 | $750 | $9,000 | ATS, onboarding, team management |
| 40 | $2,000 | $24,000 | ATS, onboarding, team management |
| Prescreener Starter, any number of locations | $99 billed yearly | $1,188 | Ranking of up to 1,000 applicants a month, 3 active jobs |
| Prescreener Growth | $249 billed yearly | $2,988 | Up to 5,000 applicants a month, 15 active jobs |

Is the Workstream 8 months free payroll offer worth it?
Workstream's site runs a banner offering up to 8 months free on the Payroll and All-in-one plans, with terms that apply. It is a real saving if you were going to move payroll anyway, because payroll is usually the largest line in an all-in-one quote. It is a weaker reason to switch if your only problem is hiring, since the offer sits on the plans above Hiring.
Before you sign, get the terms in writing: the length of the commitment the free months are tied to, what the monthly rate becomes after the promotion, whether the free months cover implementation and payroll setup, and the cost to exit early. A free period inside a multi-year term is a discount on that term, not a trial.
| Ask for | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The term the free months are tied to | A promotion inside a long commitment changes the total, not the risk |
| The rate after the promotion ends | That number is your real budget from month nine |
| Implementation and payroll setup, itemized | Third-party listings put payroll setup at $1,000 to $2,500 |
| Unit for each module, location or employee | Seasonal headcount moves per-employee lines, not per-location ones |
| Whether VoiceAI is included or metered | No usage limit is published |
| Job board reach in writing | The pricing page says both 25,000+ and 2,500+ |

Workstream vs Prescreener, which fits your hiring team?
Workstream is built for hourly employers, and its center of gravity is quick-service restaurants: it says 46 of the top 50 restaurant brands rely on it. If you run franchise locations, hire mostly through text-to-apply and want hiring, onboarding and payroll on one login, it deserves a quote. Operators comparing it with other hourly platforms should read Hireology pricing and Paradox AI pricing, and the Fountain alternative page covers the other high-volume option.
Prescreener does one job. It reads every inbound application, applies your knockout and eligibility rules, scores role-fit and ranks the pile with a written reason for each applicant, next to whatever ATS you run. It fits best when applications arrive with resumes and answers, as they do for shift leads, store managers, drivers and clinical roles, and the bottleneck is the hours spent reading them. See how it handles volume on bulk resume screening.
