Hireology vs Indeed Pricing and AI Screening Compared
Indeed gives you three free job posts a month and bills sponsored jobs per click or per started application. Hireology is a quote-only ATS whose AI Match sits on the Perform plan. What each costs, which applicants each one scores, and when a multi-location employer needs both.

Short answer: Hireology and Indeed are not substitutes, and most employers who compare them end up paying for both or for neither of the paid parts. Indeed is where applicants come from: three free job posts a month, then sponsored jobs billed per click or per started application. Hireology is an applicant tracking system that sits behind Indeed and every other source, quoted per account, with its AI that evaluates applicants only on the Perform plan. The real question is whether your problem is getting applicants or getting through them.
If you run a dealership group, a senior care operator or a set of hotels, you are probably on Indeed already. The decision in front of you is whether Indeed's own tools are enough, or whether the pile has grown to the point where you need an ATS, a screening layer, or both. We read Indeed's employer pricing and help pages, Indeed's Smart Screening page, Hireology's packages page and its AI Interview policy for this comparison. Every figure below says where it came from.

How much does Indeed cost for employers?
Indeed lets you post up to three free jobs per calendar month directly on the site, each live for up to 30 days. Free listings show in search results and then drift down as newer jobs are added. Beyond that, you sponsor. Indeed's help pages say there is no universal flat fee and no fixed $5 minimum: the minimum for each sponsored job is generated for that post from local job seeker supply and competing employers, and you see it during setup.
Sponsored jobs are billed for results. With a daily budget you may pay per click on the job post; in other setups you pay per started application, meaning a charge when someone clicks apply or starts the application. Indeed invoices on the first day of the month, or as soon as your balance reaches $500 on a card, and new accounts may see a first invoice at $25 to validate the payment method. Indeed does not publish per-click or per-application rates, so any figure you read for those is a third-party estimate.
| Indeed cost item | What Indeed says |
|---|---|
| Free job posts | Up to three per calendar month, each live up to 30 days |
| Sponsored job minimum | Dynamic, set per job from market factors, shown at setup |
| Billing unit | Per click with a daily budget, or per started application, depending on account and market |
| Invoice timing | First of the month, or at a $500 balance on a card |
| Smart Sourcing and Smart Screening | Sold separately; Smart Screening pricing comes through a sales call |
How much does Hireology cost?
Hireology does not publish a price, and hireology.com/pricing returns a 404. Its packages page names two plans. Core covers unlimited jobs, users and postings, branded career sites, job board distribution, pre-screen surveys and multi-location reporting. Perform adds the AI that evaluates applicants: AI Match, which reviews every applicant as they apply, and AI Candidate Summary. The only rate Hireology publishes is in its AI Interview fair-use policy, $3 for each AI interview over your monthly cap, with the cap set by employee count.
The $249 and $499 monthly figures that many articles quote belong to older plan names Hireology no longer lists, so treat them as history, not a quote. Our Hireology pricing breakdown grades each source and shows the AI Interview cap by employee band.
Do you need Hireology if you already use Indeed?
Usually not if you hire at one or two locations and fill a handful of roles a month. Indeed's employer dashboard handles posting, messaging and basic screener questions, and the free posts cover a small team. Hireology starts to earn its fee when hiring is spread across locations and managers: one place to see every applicant from every source, approvals, interview guides and reporting by store or rooftop.
The two also work together. Hireology says it is a Platinum ATS partner with Indeed, and you can sponsor Indeed jobs and track that spend from inside Hireology, with candidate status syncing back to Indeed. That convenience does not change who bills the sponsorship. Indeed still invoices for clicks or started applications, and Hireology bills for the platform, so a group running both carries two variable lines. Teams that pay those charges on company cards across several locations often run them through expense software that categorizes every card charge so recruiting spend shows up by location rather than as one lump at month end.
| Your situation | What usually fits |
|---|---|
| One location, a few roles a month | Indeed free posts, sponsor the hard-to-fill role |
| Several locations, managers hiring on their own | An ATS such as Hireology, fed by Indeed and other sources |
| Plenty of applicants, too little time to read them | A screening layer that ranks every applicant, on whatever ATS you use |
| Not enough applicants at all | More sponsorship and better job ads before any software |
Indeed Smart Screening vs Hireology AI Match
Both now score applicants with AI, and that is the part of this comparison that changes the budget. Indeed Smart Screening reads an application the moment it is submitted, assigns a Smart Fit Score against your criteria, can request license or certification uploads, and delivers screened applications into your ATS. Indeed does not publish its price. Hireology AI Match evaluates every applicant against the job's attributes at the moment of application and shows the supporting evidence per attribute, but only on Perform.
The gap is coverage. Smart Screening scores applicants who came through Indeed. Your career site, referrals, walk-ins who apply by QR code and other boards are not in that score. AI Match covers every source that lands in Hireology, but you need the higher plan to get it. Neither gives you a single published monthly number for scoring the whole pile.
| Screening question | Indeed Smart Screening | Hireology AI Match | Prescreener |
|---|---|---|---|
| Applicants scored | Indeed applications | Every source in Hireology | Every applicant you send it, from any source |
| Output | Smart Fit Score and candidate summary | Matched attributes with evidence | Role-fit score, written reasons and a ranked shortlist |
| Plan required | Separate product, quoted | Perform | Every plan |
| Published price | No | No | $199, $499 or $1,290 a month, or half billed yearly |
| Replaces your ATS | No | Is the ATS | No, runs alongside it |
Hireology vs Indeed for dealerships, healthcare and hospitality
These are the three industries Hireology sells into, and the answer differs a little in each. Dealership groups hiring technicians and salespeople across rooftops get the most from an ATS, because the same role opens at several stores at once and the general manager wants one view. Senior care and healthcare employers hire on credentials, so Indeed's license upload request and any screening that checks certifications before a recruiter calls is worth more than extra reach; our healthcare hiring screening page covers how knockout rules work for licensed roles. Hotels and restaurants hire in volume and lose applicants within a day, so speed of first contact matters more than depth of evaluation; see hospitality hiring screening.
If you are also weighing an all-in-one hourly platform, our Workstream pricing page covers the restaurant-focused option that bundles hiring with payroll, and CareerPlug vs JazzHR compares two ATSs with published prices.
Which should you choose?
Choose Indeed alone if you hire at a few locations, your managers can keep up with the applications, and your spending decision is just which roles to sponsor. Choose Hireology if you need hiring to run the same way across many locations and you are prepared to buy Perform for AI evaluation. Choose a screening layer if the applicants are already arriving and the cost is the hours spent reading them.
That last case is the one Prescreener is built for. It reads every inbound application and resume, applies your knockout and eligibility rules, scores role-fit and ranks the pile with a written reason for each applicant, whether they came from Indeed, your career site or a referral. It runs next to the ATS you already have at a published price, so you can test it on this month's applicants without a platform contract. See it work at volume on bulk resume screening.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hireology better than Indeed?
They do different jobs. Indeed brings applicants through free and sponsored job posts; Hireology manages applicants from every source across many locations. Multi-location employers often use both, sponsoring Indeed jobs from inside Hireology. A single-location employer filling a few roles a month rarely needs Hireology.
Does Hireology post to Indeed for free?
Hireology distributes jobs to boards including Indeed, and Indeed's free-post rules still apply to organic listings. Sponsoring a job for more visibility is billed by Indeed per click or per started application, even when you set it up inside Hireology.
How much does Indeed charge per applicant?
Indeed does not publish a per-applicant rate. With pay per started application you are charged when someone clicks apply or starts the application, and the minimum budget is set per job from local competition. Third-party estimates exist, but they are not Indeed figures.
Does Indeed screen resumes with AI?
Yes. Indeed Smart Screening scores applications against your criteria with a Smart Fit Score as soon as they are submitted and sends them to your ATS. It covers applications made through Indeed, and its price is quoted through a sales call.
